Both only help in one kickoff event each (6 and 8, 12/36 or 1/3 chance combined. 6 is cheering fans (cheerleaders) and 8 is brilliant coaching (coaches)) and all you get out of it is an extra reroll. Meanwhile, each cheerleader/coach increases your team value by 10k each, which can add up quickly. Some people do advocate buying a single one, because the roll is handled as 'd3+FAME+coaches/cheerleaders', so a single +1 can really make a difference. I'm not willing to increase my TV for something that in the long run is rarely a big deal.when my treasury was over 150kIf you're buying them and not immediately firing them to get under 150k, you're not actually changing anything.
They cost 10k, and add 10k to your team value. Therefore removing 10k from your funds over 150k (lowering your TV by 10k) and adding buying a coach/cheerleader (adding 10k to your TV) is a wash. Most times, if you are playing in a perpetual matchmaking league, taking coaching staff is a bad idea, because it is adding TV to your team without adding much value.
The only effect that cheerleaders or assistant coaches have is that sometimes it may help you win a specific kickoff event and get an extra reroll. If you've got 50k tv invested in trying to win another reroll, why not just invest that money into another reroll instead. You'll notice I said most times. When, then, is it a good idea? There are two scenarios, and both are rather niche. One is if you are playing in a fixed tv tournament and just have spare gold laying around after building your team and skills.
If you have an extra 10k after all is said and done and nothing to spend it on, why not.The other scenario I like using coaching staff is with 0 reroll team builds. These are obviously not for the faint of heart, and I wouldn't recommend them for a beginner. But, if for example you want to start with a full roster nurgle build, you can take all positionals and have 20k left, just enough to pick up a cheerleader and a coach and sometimes pick up a free reroll for a crucial play.I also like this strategy when starting elf teams with 0 rerolls. They often have catchers and throwers with built in reroll skills, and if you are aggressive and scoring a lot, that is a lot of kickoff events and potential free rerolls.Edit - I just remembered one more scenario. If you are playing halflings and expect to always take a chef to steal and deny rerolls. Then the staff isn't so much to get you more rerolls, but instead ensure that your opponent doesn't. My local group have thrown TV bloat considerations to the wind - especially with the introduction of stadiums and the like.I think its best to gauge what your local gaming group is like; personally our lot enjoy building up a characterful team including miniatures for coaching staff, cheerleaders, refs, coaches so you see a lot of them after a while. If your group is more into math-hammer and want to play to win only then i suggest (like others have) at only taking 1 max.Overall though do what you want to have fun:D.
